THE SHOT AT NICHOLAS HALL. Suspicions of a Plot. St. PETERSBURG, Jan. 20. The incident when as the Metropolitan of St. Petersburg (Ilishop Antonius) was uttering the Benediction at the ceremony of Blessing the Haters of the Neva, in the Royal presence, and, as the guns of the fortresses of St. IVter and' St. Paul saluted, a bullet crashed thro«j|fl an j upper window of the Hall of St. ' Nicholas in the Winter Palace, is shrouded in mystery. The hall was filled with members of the DiplomaI tic Court and military dignitaries, none of whom were hurt. | The plot theory regarding the St. Petersburg incident is gaining ■ground. j Two gunners belonging to the | Bourse Battery are suspected of being connected with thv revolutionaries. A SHOT AT THE CZAR. REASON Will IT FAILED. (Received Jan. 22, 4.30 p.m.) St. PETERSBURG, Jan. 21. It has transpired (hat the missile which struck the Nicholas Hall was case shot, and that it was fired at the Czar. Its ineffectiveness is attributed to the weakness of the "saluting charge" used in the gun. A GERMAN OPINION. OFFICERS RESPONSIBLE. BERLIN, Jan. 2t. The National Zeitung declares that officers alone were concerned in the Bourse cannon incident, wishing thus ■to inthuatc to the Czar that the ■time was suitable for reforms, the , Grand Duke Scrgius' fall having con- ' vinced the , aristocracy that their ; power is waning. The Zeitung adds that such a plot was only hatchable in the Czar's own entourage.
