COBSERYATIOsIsD IRRIGATION. (Received Jan. 19, 11.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, Jan. 19. The Irrigation Committee lias exhaustively- discussed the Murray waters question, including a report from a logail committee. which, alter dealing with the claims of the various States, recommended that it was desirable to have the law so shaped in New .South Wailcs that, whilst no unhue preference was given to upper or lower riparian proprietors, due encouragement should he given to settlements where the water was "available ar.d irrigation practicable. The conference subsequently adopted resolutions that in any scheme for conservation or irrigation provision should be made for safeguaiding the interests of downstream occupants, even to tho construction of works for the maintenance of navigation in South Australia, which should share the cost with New South Wales and Victoria.
