(Per Press Association.) GISUOftNE, Jan. 18. At young man named Iteginald Skeet, aon of a local i builder, met with a serious uccMcnt on board the Shaw-Savill steamer Karnmca
last night. He was making his way down the iron ladder into the hold, and at the bottom of the first flight of steps, thinking he had reached the deck, stepped off into space, falling through the two holds, a distance of 20 feet, on to the frozen mutton.below. The base of his skull was fractured, and his condition is dangerous.
i> WELLINGTON, Jan. 18. A well-known Petone Maori, named |Ngapori to Puui, dropped dead last night.
NAPIER, Jan. 18. An accident occurred this afternoon, resulting in the death oi Miss Eunice Plowman, a young lady of about 23 years of age, only daughter of Mr \V. Plowman, of ' the firm of Plowman and Son, cordial and spice manufacturers. Miss Plowman, who lfved with her parents on Colenso Hill, had gone to n well in the grounds for a bucEct of water, and returned with it to the house. She had then apparently returned for more water, for when called for lunch some time later, she was missing, and her body was found floating on the top of the water with the overturned bucket lying on the edge of the well, ft is' not known how the accident happened, but it is surmised that as the well is pnrlly uncovered Miss Plowman may have tripped on the k'erbing and fallen in, probably striking her nead against the side in doing so, as no outcry wns heard. Efforts at resuscitation -were unsuccessful.
