The following business was transacted at the final sitting of the Educational Institute :—lt was resolved —That until such time us payment of teachers' salaries is placed upon a different basis all half-holidays on which the attendance is less thaii 66 2-3 per cent, of the roll number for the time being should be omitted the calculation of the average attendance ; that the time has- arrived for the payment of teachers, to be placed upon some other basis ■than, that of Huverage oHtcndance ; that the introduction of religious instruction into the school syllabus is not desirable ; that the secretary of the Now Zealand Educational Institute be instructed to ascertain ,whnt is the proctice in other countries in regard, to daily or other inspection of schools hy medical men duly authorised (a) to (leal with cases nmongst scholars of sickness or infectious 'disease, or (l>) to grant leave of absence to children not in a lit slate to attend school, or (c) to examine children that the (cache? has reason to believe arc mentally 'deficient or suffering from deafness, defective vision, nose or throat troubles, etc. ; that the Government Inasked to issue to teachers railway tickets at excursion fares during the currency of recognised school holidays-; that in view of the agitation that is taking place throughout the colony in favour of .practical agriculture being taught in "primary schools the New Zealand Educational Institute be requested to collcc't extra data from England, Canada, and the I'nitcd Slates n» to what is being done there.
