The Late Mr W. Dingle.

THE INQUEST. The inquest touclting the death o Mr W. Dingle, who was found on Tues* ■ day morning under the circumstances detailed in Wednesday's Daily News, was held at the Courthouse on Wednesday before Mr T. Hutchinson, Coroner, and a jury consisting o; .Messrs C. M. Lepper (foreman), J. .Bennett, S. Hooper, M. Jones, 8 Jfoby and J. Asher. After-the jury had visited the morgue to view the body Sergeant Haid«drell, who conducted the Inquiry, gave evidence as to the appearand •of the body when the police wen .called. There was nothing on thi (body to throw amy light on tin -cause of death. Deceased was of a -despondent nature, anid was ver.\ much troubled when his wife was il; some time ago. Mrs Dingle said she last saw de iceased about 7.15 on Monday morn ing, when he appeared very despondent. He did not say where he was going as he passed out through the living rooms, and witness thought be was going to put out the wares in the shop. When she found that lie was not there, she concluded ho had gone into the country as he occasionally did. His business affairs were in sound condition and he had no financial troubles. On one or (wo occasions he had spoken as it be were tired of life ; though on Monday she bad not the slightest 3tiea that anything was wrong. About two years ago Mr Dingle uu derwent an operation for an internal complaint,. and though he Was better afterwaids, he still complained et m. general weakness. Katfeerine Buchanan, wife of Cameron Buchanan, baker, of Curriistreet, gave evidence that she saw ■deceased about 8 o'clock on Monday morning, when- he spoke hopeJully of the future. Leonard Frederick Webster, ft carpenter, stated that he- saw deceased on Monday evening about 5.30, at the railway bridge in Fowderh&mstreet. He then appeared all right. Walter Bailey, employee at the Egroont Mills, deposed to being callec to see the body when- it was found. Dr. Wylie stated, he had examined the body, which had lite appearand.of having; been hanging for some time alter death. A post mortem revealed nothing to indicate th. cause of deceased's action ; the effects of the previous operation went as they should be. The jury returned a verdict that [deceased met his death by hanging himself while temporarily insane.
