Wheat.—An Australian cargo and 10,000 quarters of December-Janu-ary shipment sold at 88s 3d, and 13,000 quarters February shipment at 33s lsd. The Frozen Meat Trade Association's Smithflcld markot quotations for the undermentioned classes of frozen meat are bused on actual sales of not less than 100 carcases of mutton or lamb or 25 carcases of beef of fair average quality. These quotations are not for selected linos, but parcels fairly representative of the hulk of the shipments now on the market :—Frozen mutton : Canterbury light, 48 to s(i!b, 4id ; medium, fl(j to 04H), 4J>d ; heavy, 64 to 721b, 4Jd. North Island, 55 to 65 lb, 4Jd to 4|d. Lambs : Now Zealand, short, unchanged. Now Thailand beef : Ox fores, 180 to 2201b5, 2Jd ; ox hinds, 180 to 2201b, 2{d. Wool prices are well sustained, and the demand shows a tendency to improvement. Medium to good sorts of greasy make up to 14d.
AGENT-GENEUAL'S ADVICE. WELLINGTON, Dec. 5. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received a cablegram from the Agent-Gcnoral, dated London, 3rd : Tho mutton market is firm. Stocks of mutton aro light and firmly held, in fow hands. Retail demand is becoming very much restricted on account of the high prices ruling. The avorage price to-day of Canterbury mutton is 4jd per lb, other brands of North Island mutton 4Jd. The stock of lamb is light, and there is good demand for all offering. The average price to-day of New Zealand lamb, Canterbury brands, is fijd, Australian lamb, 3Jd. v Beef is in better iveragc price to-day of hindquartara of New Kleulund beef is 3d, fores Quotations for New Zealand beef are nominal. The butter market is very firm, and there is general confidence in the maintenance of the present prices. The supply of new season's New Zealand'butter per Papunui is practically exhausted. The average price of choicest New Zealand butter today is 10. r >s per cwt., Danish HGs. The cheese market is quiet, -but firm. Canadian 19s. The hemp market is firm. Good business has been done during the past week. The price of New Zealand hemp, good fair Wellington grade, on spot to-day, is £Bl TOs per ton ; January to March shipments £3l 10s.
