SCALDED TO DEATH.
TERRIBLE FATE OF FIREMEN ON OCEAN LINER. BIX MEN KILLED. ' FREMANTLE, Nov. 80. The Orizaba has arrived. An accident occurred at seven o'clock ' on Friday moming. There was a terrible rush of steam, which envelopes the vessel, and she gradually slackened speed aiyl then stopped. The second engineer, who had just coins oB deck to make a report to his chief, guested what had happened, and rushed forward to the stokehole, wfcence a volume of steam was issuing. , After 'about ten minutes, and before the steam hod property cleared, the engineer and wiiite greasers descended, and saw a terrible sight. A branch of a staampipe eight inches in diameUc, leading from the main pipe to the port torward boiler, hud burst, and of eight Indiana employed In the vtcMty' not o*e escaped uninjured. The glreasers proceeded to druw the fires and the engineers removed tke men to the deck. Four were dead,- and two, baidly wounded, <Hed tie same d%y. One other seriously lnjonad will be landed iat Colombo, the ' eighth was slightly hurt. The men killed were literally cooked, tbe hair on their bodies being blown off. The steam pressure was 160 ib at the time of the explosion. Hie second engineer had a narrow escape, as be had examined the pipe two minute* betoro the explosion and went on deck to report to the uhief engineer that steam was escaping.
