IMMIGRATION RESTRICTION ACT AND JAPANESE. PROPOSED ALTERATION. MELBOURNE, Nov. 80. In tihe Federal House Mr Bruce Smith noticed a motion to remove Japanese from the operation of the Immigration Restrictions Act as applied to Asiatics, and place them on the same footing as subjects oi European powers. A new clause prohibiting opium and intoxicants was inserted in the Papua Bill, whidh was read a third time. (Received Dec. 1, 0.60 a.m.) LONDON, Nov. 80. The Council, considering a clause in the Stamp Duty Bill ambiguous, struck it out. The P toiler says the alteration involves £90,000 per annum. Leading members ol the council insist on the right to amend money tills.
