THE FISCAL ISSUE.
LIBERAL PLATFOTM FOR NEXT ELECTIONS. PRESS CRITICISMS. (Received Nov. 15, 1.10 a.m.) LONDON, Nov. 14. The National Liberal Association has issued a circular stating that owing to the Tory party as a whole adopting protection, the Liberals must put untaxed food and free trade in the forefront at the next elections. The Daily News, commenting on the Duke of Devonshire's speech, asks whether Mr Balfour dare make good his Edinburgh pledge. The Daily Chronicle soys that if the Edinburgh speech wnß really n disavowal of sympathy wiUi the new protection then there never was a milder repudiation. The Duke of Devonshire's tremendous attack on Mr Chamberlain's policy was one of the most remarkable contribution* to the controversy. There was no desire in the colonies to tax the Motherland for colonial purposes, though tho colony did not realise the effect of preference. It would increase immensely the Motherland's cost of living. Mr Chamberlain's policy was one with two faces. One he exhibited to the colonies, and the other here. Both sides were being lured on by deceptive purposes.
