Mr L. Allen, tho well-known Rugby player, was a passengor from Palmcrston by the mail train last night. Constablo Beattio, of Wat turn, is relioving Sergeant Haddroll for a day or two during the latter officer's absence in Wellington, Bishop Neligan, Hon. T. Thompson, M.L.C., and Mr G. Fowlds, M.H.R., were umong the passengers to Onehuhga by tho Rarawa last iovening.
Sergeant Haddrell returned from Wellington last night. Constable Heattie, who has been in charge here during his absence, returns to Waitara to-day. Mr C. 0. Kingston, late Federal' Minister of Customs, has been again confined to his bed at Ms seaside residence, near Adelaide. His health shows no sign of improvement. Lieutenant Witton, who has arrived at Adelaide, expresses gratitude to tho Australians who interested themselves in securing, his release. There was un impression in England that he had admitted the justice of his sentence, but this was entirely wrong. "Doing what I did," he says, "I was merely carrying out the orders of my superior officer, and could not have done otherwise in the circumstnnces."
