YESTERDAY'S UNION SHIELL MATCHESJUNIORS. The weather for the opening of the Riflo Union ShiieLd matches on Thursday was very unpropitious. Though the wind was, for once, not a matter of inconvenience, the thiqk mastv I'ain rendered the targets at times almost invisible. At the Rewarewa (Waiwakaiho) range two junior matches were fired. The Taranaki Rifles A team easily accounted for the Inglewood. Rifles, having a marginal allowance of 85 points to spare, and the Guards fairly walkwi over the Rifles 11. (who fired 'a man short, ami, under tho ncwi rules, had to keep their nett score, being a home team) wjth a small matter of 182 points majority.
