Grilled by Lightning.
OVERDONE STEAK THE RESULT OF A STORM. NEW YORK, Sept. 15. ' A terrific rain and thunderstorm raged in New York from 8 o'clock last night until three this mowing. Wind blew furiously at the rate of eighty miles an hour. The streets were deluged with watery whiWh iw, many e|u»a walsj over | two feet deep. ' The basements of houses were flooded, mud great damage was done. The air was highly ohargied with electricty which produced remarkable effects. Drivers of electric tramways were almost unable to j touch the metnl handles, and several I received sharp shocks. Many tram- I way-cars were disabled. Two caught | fire, and the passengers -had narrow escapes. -TJio electric wires in Jersey City were torn down and several horses billed. Many buildings were struck by lightning, including the Prudential Insurance huilding, Newark, New ■ Jersey, where huge granite blocks i were shattered and hurled in all di- 1 rations, damaging, t:ho neighbouring : houses and injuring three persons. | A cook in a restaurant close by who , was grilling a steak was hurled < aorioss Uno kiit|cihidn.
