MELBOURNE CUP NOTES. (Per Press Association.) FLEMINGTOX, Oct. 25. Canteen strode over thirteen furlongs in 2.58, Wairiki did useful work. Sweet Nell went a mile and a half in 2.45. Tartan eleven furlongs ill 2.2GJ, SylvaniUi amd Demas similar distances in, 2.21 and 2.18 respectively, Gladsome a mile in 1.55, Marmonl foui-teen furlongs in 3.11J, Bllliiigsgiate eleven furlongs in 2.30. Canteen Jtas again been installed favourite for the Cup, the quotations being : 6 to 1 Canteen, 7 to 1 Murmur, 12 to 1 Sylvan King and Wairiki (the latter is well backd 14 t0 1 Lor(i ( -' arc % a n, 16 to 1 St. Ambrose, Marmont, Tartan and Acrasia.
Nightfall was scratched for the New Zealand Cup at 4.30 p.m. today. r
