Works Committee.

The borough works committee met last night. There mre present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr R. Cock), und Crs. Wilson, Jlrowue, Brooking, and Cliff. s

An application from the museum committee regarding an uccount from the Sash mkl Door Factory was referred to the opeu council. In reply to a letter from Mr Cecil Wright it was decided that the committee, cannot recommend the departure from a provious resolution, offering Atua £5 in settlement of his claim for overtime.

Mr A. C, Fookes wrote asking that the council carry out a promise made some time ago to metal Cameron-street to his cosnor. It was decided that the engineer sec to the: work.

Mr A. H. Kendall wrote expressing willingness to take over the combined omcce of sanitary and general inspector. It wgs decided to offer him the appointment.

Mr Pikett writing objecting to certain proposals of the council, he is' to receive throe months' notice ofl the termination of his contract in terms of his letter, and tenders arel to be called for the positions of Poundkeeper, ranger, and dog tax collector.

A request from tiho Elliot Road Board for certain work at Wallace Place and Elliot-street was referred to the engineer. The engineer was instructed to take steps to keep Currie-iane inj proper order.

The request oi the carnival committee for the, asphalting a nd lighting of the street* leading to the exhibition site was referred to a special committee consisting of Crs. Brooking, Cliff, a nd Wilson, with the engineer.

The engineer in his report stated tliat the tunnel and intake wa» nearly completed. The .pipe, bridges by the Mongorol factory and the stream should be completed shortly. Work at the reservoir was also satisfactory, as wat> the pipe laving. The Hcnui bridge Contract was progressing slowly owing Ux the .smallness of the staff employed. In reference to the encroachment and drainage to Mr Woodard's property ho suggested that the matter bo left until the wholo work was completed. The metalling of Dovon-stroot West end Vivian-street had been finished as far as authorised. With regard to Bulteel-streot The ievola of Morleystrcet had been taken, but. he would like to meet the committee thero. As regards Devon-street ho asked that tho committee meet him to decide as to tho work to be done, whether a permanent Job be carried out, or temporary measures taken. The report was adopted.
