(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 7. In the Legislative Council the Maori Antiquities Bill passed thr o ugh committee. In the House, in Committee of Supply, on the Lands and Survey Department estimates, Mr Kirkbridc moved to reduce the item "Eradication of noxious weeds, £3000" by £l. After a discussion lasting an hour and twenty minutes te motion was negatived by 33 votes to 14. Mr Kirkbrido thein moved a reduction of £1 in the item ' Fees to members of the Waste Land Hoards, £1800," a» an indication that the Government !ihould introduce legislation to givo greater discretionary 1 powers to boards In dealing with Crown tenants. After considerable debate Mr Kirkbridc withdrew his motion on the Minister giving nn assurance that the Premier would bring in a bill which would give meni'beiis an opportunity of further discussing the question. The discussion thereafter became general on miscellaneous items, and the committee at 5.30 adjourned until 7.30. On resuming at 7.30 the estimates of the Lands and Survey, State Forests, Valuation and Advances to Settlers Departments were ngreed to without alteration. The llefonctt Department estimator were under consideration when the telegraph office closed.
