Emir and Sweet Nell covered ten furlongs >n 2min lOsec, Sylvanlto a mile in lmin 48sec, Demos nine furlongs in 2uiin ljsec, awl Nuncio and Hallarat a mile in lmin 46sec. Wairiki was absent. Betting on -V.R.C. Derby : 6 to 4 against Sylvan!te, 2 to 1 Deuias, 5 to 1 Koopan. (Received Oct. 4, 8.45 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Oct. 4f Canteen's gallop created some demand. The best oiler was 100 to 7, but backers were dissatisfied, and would not accept. Gladsome remains favourite for tho Caullleld Cup, but the price about her and the others is unaltered. The general entries for the V.R.C. meeting exceed those of last spring meeting by ono hunlired, although one race has less.
