CONFERENCE OF ENGLISH . WORKING MEN. NEWSPAPEK OPINIONS. LONDON, Oct. 3. The National Conservative Work- : n(j Men's Conference, representing Lancashire, Cheshire, and West Yorkshire, meeting at Manchester, unanimously resolved that it is absolutely necessary to reconsider' the nation's fiscal policy, with a view to the maintenance of trading Interests and securing employment l>r, and the social comfort of, industrial workers.
The Pall Mall Gazette says that Messrs Hums and * Bell's appeal to Australian Labour emphatically confirms Mr Chamberlain's views regarding tho colonics. The Daily Chrouiclo described Australia as doaf to reason, and adds that so much talk about .bargains and preference is likely to cud in bad feeling between the colonies and the Motherland. The paper emphasises those selfish tendencies which regarded the maintenance of the Kmpire only as a means of socuring sixpence for the pocket.
