Sir 11. Chermsiirte's resignation is the outcome of the action taken in
the Australian Parliament with the object of reducing the status and emoluments of State Governors. I Messrs Morgan (Premier) una Philp ■ (Leader of the Opposition.) paid a! high tribute to Sir Herbert Chermside, and general regret was expressed. He departs in a few days on three months' leave, at the oul of which his resignation takes effect. i
