SOME RESOLUTIONS FROM OURISTCHUROH. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCIIUHCH, September 14. The Ohristchurch Council of tfce Churches yesterday passed the following resolutions regarding theLlcensiii|g Bill: ''That this meeting strongly disapproves of the Licensing aci Amendment Bill ase. whole, as introduced by the Premier, and pledges itself by all passible mean* to pmvent the bill in its present form from becoming law. it protcais, inter alia, against clauses 0 and 10, as introducing a confusion of issue and tending to defeat the fairness of the licensing poll; clauses 25 and 26, on tho grounds that State control of tho liquor traffic has not been asked for by any considerable section of the public, and has mover been put before the people as a separate, definite issue ; the inclusion of clauses 14 to 23 in the bill, making necessary amendments in electoral machinery contingent upon tho passing of the measure, us abounding in concessions to the liquor traffic and restrictons on the popular power to control it; and clause 11, preferring the retention of clause 33 of the 18»5 act." The council further protests against the negltut of the Government and the House to provide redress for the wrong sulk-rut by the electors of Newtown and Bruce, who through tho imperfect state of the law are coiiijiclled to submit to a continuance of the trullic against which they voted by iui overwhelming majority ut the last poll, and calls upon Parliament not to allow the present session to close without making tho necessary provision lo prevent a recurrence of such cases.
