Unrellable Witnesses.
SLY-GROG SELLING PROSECUTION BREAKS DOWN, (Per Press Association.) HAMILTON, September 14 In tho District Court, before Judf* Kettle, J. p. Gofley was chafed with sly grog-selling a t Taumarunul. King Country. According to the evidence, prisoner had offered passage money to two witnesses to leave Now Zealand. Tho offence was alleged to havo taken place oh the occasion of a drunken raid, those concerned having previously obtained liquor elsewhere. The premieea belonged to a man who at the timet « was serving « sentence for sly rrog*. \ sdl'ng. Quantities ol liquor were. discovered by tho polico concealed beliind the lining of the building. The, iividence for the defence went to show that the witnesses on the other aid* www actuated by a motive of revenge. The Judge commented on the unsatisfactory nature of tie evidence for the prosecution, and the jury acquitted the prisoner.
