MURDER AND PILLAGE.
TERRIBLE MA SSAC HE IX NEW BRITAIN. TEN PERSONS KILLED. | (Received September 12, 1 a.m.) BRISBANE, September U. The German mail steamer brings news of terrible til the Catholic mission stations of St. Paul and Mai/hannah, in New Britain, on August 13th. Slaves, liberated by thy missionaries, were kept at the stations, and £hese slaves assisted tho natives from the mountains, who, headed by Tomari, a favourite boy of Padre Rasher, attacked the St. Paul mission. Tomari shot the Paidre and one of the holy sis/ters who came to his assistance. A general massacre followed, the victims numbering nine, including Padre Rasher, the Brothers Bleu, Blarschoerg, and Schellekens, and the Sisters Anna. Sophie, Gatiha, Agnes, a iid Wilhelmina. The majority were killed with hatchets and terribly mutilated. The same day tihe mission at Nacharmah was attacked, and Brother Henri Potton killed'. The Stations were completely looted, and the murderers also looted the station at Marienhoer, but luckily the mission brothers were absent. A Government punitive expedition subs<?qiuently captured a large number of natives euigagvd in the attacks, twenty-six of whom were shot.
