The treasurer's report showed a balance of £1035 4s 6di, and the board authorised expenditure of £BOO on primary education. The following transfers were approved, subject to he necessary legal steps iheing token Iby November Ist :-J o hn Keightloy to Thos. Vickere, of section 43, Maiiffanul district; W. A. Quinn to P J.. Murtaigh, subdivision 3 of section 189, Hawera district ; W, A. Quinn to A. Godfrey, subdivision 5, section 189, Hawera district. Am application -for transfer of lease by O Symes, section 26, block 16, was deterred pending ranger's report on the •' ndition of property. .Mrs Maltida Webber was granted an extension of timo for fulfilment of Muilding clause in respect of section 2308, New Plymouth, .provided certain formalities are carried out. George Jennings was granted -leave to' grant" George Syme timber a nd tramway rights over section 5, block 13, Ngatimaru. The Hawera County Council applied for a list of the education reserves in Hawera county, the revenues derived therefrom, and how they are vested, with a view to conserving the interest' of that district ln these reserves The hoard resolved thai the Hawera County Council bo informed that the full returns of the reserves hod 'been supplied to the Minis'or for Education, from whom particulars may bo obtained. The board's solicitor having reported on reserve T, the cluib was instructed to wipe out some outstanding rent. __ Sundry accounts totalling £4B 18s 7| d were passed f o r payment.

Taranaki Rifle Union. »— . — Tho annual meeting of ,tho Taraimki Rifle Shooting Union took place at Stratford on Thursday, when all corps in the district sent represen hves except Waitara. Captain Kimbell (Stratfond Rifles) presided. Tho report and toalaneo-sheet were adopted, the latter showing a slieiht credit balance.

Amongst tho business transacted was the following: Tliat ".general average" -be not recognised in competitions under union rules, and no allowance will bo m tw le for home teams not putting in full numbers, but visiting teanm will bo allowed to rcpoat tho lowest score for one man; that if four junior -teams enter f o 'r competition a juniior shield will -be procured ; that subscriptions (for this year only) fa levied from comlicuitors (3s 6* for seniors and 2s for juniors) for the purpose of procuring a challenge lb)* and gold and silver medals for seniors and! gold and silver medals for Juniors. Competitors' aggregates will bo kept, and tho twenty highest scorers in tho seniors and fifteen highest in tho juniors will fire off on a neutral range if such can be procured. It was decided to mako two sighting shots compulsory in all matches, but thes# will not count in sooros.
