Queen Alexandra has returned to London from Balmoral, not from Copenhagen as previously cablad. Mr and Mrs M. E. Beamish, of Sloncycroft, near Hastings', celebrated their golden wedding on August 24.

Trie death occurred on Saturday of Mr John Hamilton, on ok. Christchuroh resident, aged 68 years. In the seventies and early eighties ho was engaged In trading between Lyttelton and Bank's Peninsula. After settling in Christehurch ho took an active part in local politics, and was at various times a member of tho City Council and the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board.

By tho Itarawa yestcixlay there arrived in New Plymouth Mr C. Little, District President in New Zoalaml of tho H.A.C.B. Society, accompanied by Mr W. Kane, District Secretary. The mission of the gentlemen is one of inspection generally in the interests of the Order, and also to assist in the opening of one or two new branches. Last night the local branc i of the H.A.C.B. wan visited and the district officers were most cordially welcomed. They expressed themselves as being extremely pleased with the flourishing stele of the branch in Now Plymouth. To-daj they proceed to Okato to open theiea new branch of the Sosioty and on Wednesday the officers go on to Palmerston, returning to Wangnnui next day, when they will visit tho branch there. On Friday the district officers intend to visit Stratford, where they mill hold a meeting with a view to establishing a branch in that town. Messrs Little and Kane return to Auckland by the steamer leaving New Plymouth on Saturday night.
