THE FIGHT FOR PORT ARTHUR.
{the DEFENEERS' stern OPPOSITION. ARMOUR-PLATED FORTS. LONDON, September 1. Che-foo advices in regard to Port Arthur state that two Japanese assaults on Pa-lung-wamg were repulsed. The Russians re-occupied a position, which the Japanese on the 28th, after taree hours' fierce lighting:, had occupied, despite a cross fire. No. 6 fort, near their right flank, and otlraer forts concentrated a fire thereon, expelling the Japanese. Tae inner forts at Port Arthur are protected by massive steel plates and numerous maxims.
