LADIES' TOURNEY. U'er Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 31. There was keen excitement at Day's Bay to-day, when A»raugi (Wellington) Ladies' Hockey Club .succeeded in lowering tho colours 0 f the Cravm Sclio 0 l (Pulmerston North) l>y two igoals to one. Tho Craven Club has hold the championship since the inauguration of tho annuul ladies' tournament. Scorers for Aoiangi were Misses Watson and Heath, un<l tor Cravon Miss Dalrymplo.
TARANAKI ASSOCIATION. A meeting of tho Taranaki Hockey Association was held at Stratford on Tuesday night, audi was attended by Messrs W. Anderson (chairman), Qarciu (Inglewood), Cuto and Avory (New Plymouth). The secretary, Mr Husband, read a letter from the Taimnaki Rugibh/ Union ragai'diing the disqualification <f a player, and regretting that it had no power to endorse the action. At t;«) same time the union was of opinion that an association should be formed to endorse disqualifications, and thereby prevent such players from taking part in any kind of sport.
The matter of sending a representative team either north or south was discussed, and it was ultimately do sided to send a team south, going as far as Wellington, and playing matches at Palmerston, Masterton, and Wonganui. The fixing of the date of the matches and the appointment of a manager was left in the lands of the management committee. It was resolved that after tho team is selected a practice match be arranged with Carrimgton Road and New Plymouth v. Inglew o od clubs, at Inglewood on September ■lsth.
An unusual sccno at a hockey match »as witnessed at Day's Bay (Wellington) on Saturday. The girls eng)aj(ed in the Nolson-Aoriai))gi match were about to take up their positions for play when the yahoos comprising the United and Vivian teams (males) rushed in and took possession of the ground. A crowd of people who had proceeded to Day's Bay specially to see the girls play, resented toe action of the male teams. Among those who took a hand in the affair was Mr Fred. Pi rani, who to 0 k up a position on tho lin-5 with tho object of preventing the game proceeding, and he eventually stopped the match being played. The crowd backed up Mr Pirani, ami as they took possession of the field the Vivians and Unitods slunk oIT, and the walked on white the band played " See the Conquering Hero Comes."
