The Rotoitt passed Manukau Heads at 5.20 last evening, from Onehunga to New Plymouth.

North, at 8.20 p.m. The new steamer ijwiian Monarch, now en route to JKew /©aland, under charter to the Tyser Company, is luUy described in the latest issue of "Syren arid Shipbuilding." 'ihe vessel was constructed by jklessrs Hussell anfi Co., to the order of the Monarch Steamship Company, Limited, Ulasgow, the managing owners being Messrs Haebmn and Verrel, 81 St. Vincent-street, Ulasgow. The dimeusians of tm vessel are :—37oft b/49ft by H9ft Sin moulded, with a carrying capacity of about btfSO tons dead-weight, on a draught of about 38ft Bin. She is of the spar-deck type, built on the deep-frame system to the highest class at Lloyd's, and is about 4404 tons gross register. She has a beautifully lilted saioon, fißisjhed in oak, the other accommodation for, the officers and engineers being finished in teak. She is litted with a distilling apparatus of about 5000 gallons capacity, evaporutprs, feed filters, comfortable arrangement for crew, including hospital, telescopic masts; and sine is also pierced in the 'tween decks for Bide-ligjits, with the view of carrying horses, with extremely high 'tween decks. The machinery has been constructed by Messrs Rankin and Blackmore, Greenock, tne cylinders being 26in 42ta, 70in by 48in stroke, bpilers fitted with Howdon's forced draught. The average speed attained on the trial' trip was twelve knots and three-quarters, which was considered Very satisfactory ._ The vessel is fitted ' with & solid "Bull's metal pro- , pellerV Messrs Bussell and Co. are ; Just completing a second boat for the same owners, the Ocean Monarch.
