I'r. Van Slykc, eye and ear specialist, arrived in New Plymouth by the express last evening, and la staymg at the Criterion. Mr Bertram McKenall, Australian sculptor, won the public competition for the momorial at Islington to those killed in South Africa. Captain Cox, pilot and harbourmaster at Nelson, has resigned on ■the grounds that his salary ia in-' •dequuto and that he has sought a more congenial occupation.
