THE VESSEL PRACTICALLY GUTTED. (Received July 18, 1 a.m.) MELBOURNE, July 18. Rain and a rough sea ior two days have practically quenched the tire on board the P. and 0. Australia, though it is still smouldering in places in the interior. The lire has almost completely gutted the vessel, and the ironwork is badly twisted by the heat. The masts and funnels are still Standing, but they are in a dangerous condition. The port side has canted slightly, otherwise the position of the hull remains unaltered. Over £4OO worth of salvage gear, left on board by the Underwriters' Association's woncmen, was destroyed.
