OUR LETTER BOX

fwe are at all times willing to public correspondence on matters ol public interest, but it must be dU tinetly understood that we are not identified with the letters of our correspondents.—Ed. Daily News.i HENUI BRIDGE CONTRACT. (To tho Editor.) Sir,—ln your issue of Julv 12th there appears a local regarding the bad state of the road at the Ilenui whole of the blame on the contractbridge, which appears to cast the \or. I think that as publicity has been given to that effect it is only right that the public should know that the Ixirough council reserved its contracts for carting metal and increased the ordinary traffic to an unreasonable oxtent just at the very time when it ought to have endeavoured to easo the road for the convenience of Uio public. Sueh extraordinary traffic still continues. I would also respectfully point out to you that the road would have been completed together with the bridgie had I been allowed to proceed when uho weather was fine,, but having received notice to stop the excavating until permission was granted, 1 must respectfully ask tho forbearance of tho ratepayers, and give the credit of the present state of affairs to whom such honour is duo.—l am, etc., A. A. PIKETT, I Contractor.
