UNITED STATES DEMOCRATIC CONVENTION. JUDGE PARKER NOMINATED, NEW YORK, July 10. The first ballot at the St. Louis Democratic Convention resulted : Justice Parker 658, Mr Hearst 204, Mr Olney 38, Mr Cockerell 42, Mr Wall 37. ' Upon the result being announced Mr Hearst transferred sufficient votes in order to secure a two-thirds majority for Judge Parker. Subsequently a motion In favour of Justice Parker's unanimous nomination was carried amid extraordinary enthusiasm, JUSOTOB PARKER AND THE SOLD STANDARD. Immediately after ihe was nominated Justice Parker telegraphed that he regarded the gold standard as irrevocably established, ancj - would aot accordingly. If the convention disapproved of this, he declined; nomination. Consternation was created by this announcement, but ultimately the Convention, by 774 votes to 191, and despite Mr IV, J. Bryan's opposition, replied that its platform would be silent on the monetary standard, because it was not a possible issue. Therefore Justice Parker's nomination l was not precluded. Henry Davis, a Virginian capital„.isi,.was nominated for Vice-Presi-f dent.
