Hia Worship the Mayor proceeds to Wellington this morning.

Rev. A. F. Smith was a passenger fdr Auckland last, evening by the Kara wa.

Mr C. H. Weston, of Weston and Weston, solicitors, went north last night on a visit to Auckland. Mr and Mrs Hamilton-Hodges, the well-known singers, were passengers from Wellington by the mail train yesterday, and proceeded to Auc.kAuekland last night.

Harry Lee, a one time famous footballer, died at Wellington yesterday. Deceased was u member of Warbriek's team of native footfifallotb who toured Kngland in 1888-89.

llr. RoßOtti, one of the oVdest and most highly respected medical men on the West Coast, died at Hokitika yesterday at the age of 79. Deceased acted (or many years as vice-Con-sul for Italy and Switzerland. The Eltham Argus' reports that Mr Barnard, postmaster at Nascby, Otago, hua been appointed postmaster for the new Eltham post office. The transfer means promotion for Mr Barnard, who was at one tdme stationed at Hawera. Mr Bennett, stationmaster at Eltham, has been promoted to the post | of n: Napier line. The transfer probably takes place in about three weeks' time. Mr Bennett's successor has not yet ibeen selected.

The following transfers of postmasters have been decided upon :—R. C. Black from Milton to Dannevirke, J. Brown from Dannevirke to Carterton, W. C. Drake from Carterton- to Whangaroi, A. Absolum from Whangarei to Milton, F, H. Barnard from Naseby to Eltham, C. A. Wells from Whitianga to Naneby.
