MURDEROUS ATTACKS
ATTEMPT TO BLOW UP A FAMILY. MELBOURNE, July 9. A dastardly outrage is reported from Rothsay. The family of Mr Shields, a farmer, were roused early in the morning by two loud explosions, and discovered that someone unknown had broken the windows of a room where Shields' wife slept, also that where a servant girl was slwpifig, and had thrown In lemonade bottles charged with blasting powder, and also fired a gun in the girl's room. Marks of the shot are on the wall. A tin canister, containing ajlbs of powder, with a fuse attached, was discovered outside the girl's room. Shields received painful injuries from flying ,glassi. The others were uninjured.
