ENGLISHMEN IN QUEENSLAND. (P« Press Association.) BRISBANE, July 9, The match Britain v, Queensland was flayed In perfect weather—very cold, with slight winds. During the second spell the British combination improved, arid for the greater part of the time the Quomslandera were compelled to act on the defensive. Shortly Ixrfore time the Quccnslandera became very aggressive, and despite the visitors' fine play Holmes succwded in crossing near the comer, and Carmichael oonverted. Shortly after- 1 ward no-side sounded, the gaino endiag : Britain 24 points, Queensland 5.
At Globorne on Saturday Poverty Bay defeated Wniapu by 9 points to 3, An inquiry is to be lield into the trouble at Newcastle, in the Britain v. Northern Union match, on Wednesday last, when an English player was ordered off the field. At Palmerston North on Salurday Manawatu defeated Wniugamii by 13 points to nil. Three unconverted tries were secured by Archie McMinn, Baker, and Alex. McMinn, and a goal was obtained from a mark. The game was played in tho mud, and was evenly contested throughout. The committee of the Auckland Rugby Union has inquired into a statement that a City Club player had been offered money on condition that he did not play his best game for the team he represented in the City v, Newton match last Saturday, As a consequenre two players have been disqualified from playing for ten years l ami ordered off grounds under the Jurisdiction of the Auckland Rugby Union during that period. It was also resolved that aa outsider should be ordered off the grounds under the union's jurlsdicdiqlion for life.
