"The Crystal Slipper."

There was a good audience at tho Whiteley Hall last evening, whon the cantata "The Crystal Slipper" was given by a choir of girls connected with tho Whiteley Church, assisted by friends from other churches, in aid of the circuit fund. The cantata was preceded by a short programme of miscellaneous items, which was a treat, in point of musical excellence, not often ex[lerienced at local concerts. In this part two items standing out for commendation wero a song "Should he Upbraid" by Miss W. Baker, and a song "Pierrot," by Miss W. Nixon, tibese two ladies receiving very hearty recognition of their offorts. Other contributors wore ATrs A. Vealo (pianoforte solo "Invitation to Waltz"), Misses E, K. Ambury and W. Nixon (duet "Barcarolle"*), and Misses W. Nixon, M. Black and 11. Bakor (trio ''"The Snow"). Those taking part in the cantata must have felt gratified at Hie reception accorded to their efforts. Miss K. Collis, in the role of Cinderella, carried out her part woll, as did the Misses L. Ainsworth (Cinderella) and M. Black (Cordelia), whoso acting evoked hearty and well-merited applause. Miss Winnie Nixon, as tho Fairy Queen, gave a very pleasing performance. The male parts wero taken by Messrs F, Hopker (Prince) and V. Griffiths (Herald), while Master Gaukrodger mado a ready Page. The chorus and orchestra did their part well, contributing materially to tho success and enjoyment of tho entertainment. To Mrs Gaukrodger, who acted as conductor, much of the credit of the successful presentation is due, that lady having devoted ai g^vat 1 ,deal of time and work to the preparation of participants In their work. Mr Vincent CoLbeck also deserves a word of commendation for tho sartorial adornments of tho malo characters. Altogether "Tho Crystal Slipper" was a mos| onjoyablo production, wfiich it is hoped wiij bp the precursor of other similar treats.
