Taranaki Jockey Club.
A special meeting of the. committee <>f the Turaiiaki Jockey Club was lield at the club's rooms on Friday evening, Mr Samuel, president, in liie chair. Jn consequence of the conference liemg fixed for the middle of •luly, the committee took into consideration a "quantity of business to lie submitted at the meeting. Two applications for totalisalor permits were considered-the one irom the Mnimia Dacing Club, which does not at present possess any permit, and the other from the Strutlord, itacimg Cli<b', which asks for a permit for a meeting for one duv in addition to its present permit (for a two days' meeting). The granting ot permits, resting with the Colonial Secretary, after reference to the .■'-"""''•eiice, ihe e, uittee resolved to loi-wnrd botli applications to the coniercnce, with recommendations that they should be granted. As however, there are always far more applications for thise permits than •ire granted, considerable doubt wis -■xpressed whether the result sought lor would be obtained.
Two applications were received for I lie establishment of new clubs one tor a club to be called the Okaiuwu Haciinf Club, and the other from one to be called the Waihi Sports Club. The decision in such cases resting with the conference, jln- committee resolved that the applications should lie transmit tod to the chairman accordingly.
I'he dates lor the holding of meetings throughout, the district were lull.v discussed, and were determined (subnet to the approval of the conlerence) us follows :
Waitara U.C., November 21th • Taranaki .IX., December 2(i and '>-', and February 8 and 9 ; Opunake R C, January 2 ; Egmont H.C., Feb.. ruary lii and II! nnd .May 10 and 11Stratford D.C., March ':I6 and 17, and if adilitional permit granted' October 27 ; I'ateu H.C., Easter •Monday ; Manuiu H.C., if permit granted, June 3.
The secretary reported that I lie requisite accounts in connection with the Trainers' mid .Jockeys' Funds (Messrs N. King and W. J.. Newman trustees) had been transmitted to the conl'eruici".
Mr Samuel, the delegate to tinconference, reported that all proposed alterations suggested by the committee had been duly transmitted -ind had been published in the Ollicial Calendar, and it was decided that all alterations proposed hy the clubs in New Zealand should he taken into consideration at the ordinary meeting of the committee, to beheld on Friday nest.
Various persons who are disqualified on account of having taken part at an unregistered meeting ut Okato applied to (lie committee to have the disqualifications removed ; but it was chvidid to refuse these applications, so tliat neither they nor any horses owned or trained by them can take pari at anv meetings during next season, or even afterwards, until the disqualifications are removed.
An application from the Taranaki Agricultural Society was considered, for the appointment of delegates of Hie club to attend a meeting as to intended legislation witli respect to the racecourse reserve ; and the cliuirmun and treasurer ('Messrs Samuel and Xewman) were appointed delegates.
A long discussion took place with reference lo the holding of the inquiry at 7 o'clock this evening into charge» against fivo persons arising out of their nllcffd practices on the turf, and it was requested that Mr QuiUium (Iki specially requested to assist the committee at the inquiry.
