Settlers find it difficult to pet MaoriH to work for them, and even those who have been employed' steadily for vears have thrown up bush contracts and joined the other natives in their ,in'desirable courses. The settlers and more enJigPitened natives are helpless to stem this last outburst, of belief in the power of the tohunga.
