The timber, which can be immediately utilised, is purlri, within twomiles of the soa coast, and the best! that can lie obtained in the col-" ony. Many of tho trees, which have been inspected by Mr Charles Clayton, Government Surveyor and exsawmill proprietor, are by girth, from 9 to 15 feet, and in length; from 14 to 80 feet. The bush is. easy of access and to work, and should prove a most remunerativeinvestment for any capitalist on company. Mr Charles Clayton says :—" There are plenty of places, throughout New Zealand where mills are placed with nothing like the timber and prospects that tho bush in question possesses, and the great facilities and advantages for working it." The object should be. first to deal with the puriri, as. the Government Railway Department, offer an inmiediate market for sleepers i» any quantity.. This bush has been sought after for Hie lust. 25 years, but the difficulty in dealing with tho natives hae hitherto been insuperable. The. N.S2. Herald supplement recently contained a notice of the excellent quality of the timber on this, land. It is estimated that there is. ample timber to furnish a supply: for 20 or 80 years.
