Town Band Ball.

Tke annual Town Band ball in the Theatre Hoyal last night was, as usual, a hugo success, despite tho fact that the weather was not of a nature to tempt people to venture out. Tho committee hud apparently been to a great amount of pains to perfect arrangements, and the result was a. function that must be regarded as eminently successful from every standpoint. The ballroom had been decorated with ilags and ferns, with pictures placed ul intervals, and tho stage, used as u drawing-room, was tastefully arranged. The floor was particularly good, and this, combined with the really excellent music provided by Air Garry's orchestra, ensured the enjoyment of the dancers. The efforts of the combination' were very favourably commented on, the music being well selected, and the lime excellent. Mr K. Humphries acted ns M.C. A special feature was Mie supper, provided by tho ladies committee, which, under the presidency of Mrs Cock, the Mayoress, hud done wonders. Tho tubles were nicely arranged nnd tastefully decorated* by Miss Lawson and Miss Maud (Japei. Tho only fault in this department was the failure to limit (he numbers of visitors to tho supper-room simultaneously, and a mild crush resulted. Tho enjoyment throughout was most hearty.

After tho supper adjournment Mr F. W. Richmond, ns president of the band, returned thanks to Mrs Cock and tho committee of ladies who had ussisted in the preparations for tho ball. Ho mentioned (hut m October next the bund would be twenty years old, and that although it ban been out, of health lately it was recovering strength and hoped to live longer. The speaker also expressed a hope that the same generous assistance would be given lo their friends of the Garrison Band, and said that the success of one band need not moan, the failure of the other, and that they hoped to live and prqsper together in friendly rivalry.
