A CHAMPIONSHIP EVENT. LONDON, June 12. The open golf championship ut Sandwich was won by Jack Whitei with a record score of 296 for four rounds; J, H. Taylor, of Mid Surrey, and James Braid, of Romford, 297 each ; Tom Vardon, 301 ; Harry Vardon, 302. Taylor put Up a record in the fourth round of GB. Travis was knocked out in the second round. (Last year the championship was won by H. Vardon, with a score of 300, T. Vardon beihg second).
