Licensing Matters.

(Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, June 6. At the annual meeting of the licent sing committee all applications for extension beyond ten o'clock were refused. Eight applications for renewals were deferred till the 27th, chiefly in rcgai-d to alterations, on sanitary grounds, and ill connection with fire escapes. WELLINGTON, June 0. The city licensing committee met to-day. Tli„' police reported fayourably on most of the applications for renewal of licenses, but considered some of the old wooden Imildings a source of danger in case of (ire. In two or three cases renewals were held over for a week to consider matters of minor importance. Ten o'clock closing was decided on. An application from the Licensed Victuallers' Association to close at eleven was refused. GISBORNE, June 0. The Licensing Committee to-day granted all applications, subject to small improvements being made. The chairman commented on the number of intoxicated men seen in the street:;, and warned publicans that more million was necessary in that respect.
