Sir J. Gordon Sprigg, ex-Premier of Cape Colony, visits Australia shortly. Tho llawko's Bay Herald says On Saturday Mr F. Simpson, ' who has boon promoted from tlie position of chief draughtsman in the Napier hands and Survey Oflice to that of Chief Surveyor and Commissioner of Crown Lands for Taranaki, was presented with a silver rake basket by the local officers of tho department. The presentation was made by Mr Rric C. Gold Smith, the Commissioner for llawko's Bay, \vJio congratulated the recipient oti !iis promotion. Sfi* Simpson has now been over thirty years in the Government service,- and previously was surveyor and assistant engineer to the Auckland Provincial Council. He was formally appointed district surveyor for Ilawke's I Jay in 3 879, but four years later left the field and has sine-, been in the oflice. His promotion i** the well-deserved recognition of experience and efficiency.
