Supreme Court.

(Per Press Association.) WANGANUI, May 31. At the civil sittiags this morning, in the case Smithies v. the Universal Supply Company, claim £5Ol for wrongful seizure and detention of a sewing machine, judgment was given by consent for £lO (value of the machine), 10s interest, and nominal damages Is. INVEBCARGLLL, May 31. 11l the Supreme Court Kebecca and Mary Stratton, mother and daughter, pleaded guilty to concealment of birth in connection with the child of the latter and were ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. Joseph N. Garron, aged 20, convicted of indecent assault, was sent to gaol for three years. Mr Justice Denniston remarked that the prisoner was not fit to tie at large. If his conduct was good and he showed some sense of responsibility the question of remitting a portion of the sentence might be considered. The remarks of his Honor were directed to doubts of the prisoner's mental stability. He had got drunk for the first time on the night the assault was committed, and boasted about it all to his workmates at a mill in the country. r lTie police had arrested another young man for the offence, and it might have gone hard with him but for Garron's boasting.
