ftlr William Culpan, an old settler, who arrived in New Zealand in 1842, died at Auckland on Sunday, at the age of 86, The Premier arrived at Whangnrci on Saturday afternoon. He 1b slightly better in health, but did not laud, Mr George Fisher, M.H.R., has been released from the Waitati Home, on the certificate of two medical men, the order being made by Mr C. C. Graham, S.M. Dr. F. Trilby King, superintendent of the Seacliff Asylum, has been ordered a complete rest from his ordinary duties for some time to come on account of an affection of the eyes. Chief Judge Davy, of the Native Land Court, is about to retire from the Government service. His successor will be Mr H. G. Seth-Smith, barrister, of Auckland, who formerly held the position. Constable Beattie, of Waitaia, is at present in charge at the local police station for a few days, Sergeant Haddrell having left on Monday morning on a short trip to Wellington. The Prime Minister of England (Right Hon. A. J. Balfour) has notified that his Majesty the King directs that the official celebration of his birthday shall be on June 24. It was intended, wherever possible, to celebrate the event on the day originally fixed for the coronation (June 26th). This year the 26th falls on a Sunday—hence the selection of the preceding Friday.
