TRAVEL IN TANGIERS.
A BANDIT'S DEMAND ON THE SULTAN. NEW YORK, May 29. While travelling recently in Tungiers, an American named Perdicaris was captured, with his son-in-law, by a notorious bandit, Raisuli, who demanded heavy ransom, and also that the Sultan should release certain outlaws who had been imprisoned. At first Britain and America were inclined to endorse Kaisuli's demand. President Roosevelt and Colonel Hay (Secretary of State) have now decided that it is impossible (o force the Sultan to accede to Kaisuli's lenus. who in addition to an indetu- ! i-ily and ransom demands of Ihe Suli;m the withdrawal of forces from ;he Tnnejers province, leaving Kttisuli to control the district. Four American cruisers and two gunboats are proceeding to Tangier*.
