Mysterious Signals.

NO EXPLANATION OF THEIR CAUSE. (Per Press Association). WANGANUI, May 80. Tho steamer Himilangi, which was chartered by the Marino Department to search for the vessel reported to have been firing signals of distress off Ohau, arrived at Costlecliff yesterday morning from Wellington. Those on board reported that no sign was >oen of ony vessel in distress. Tho Stormbird, which left Wanganui on Saturday for Wellington, and the, Alexander, hound from Wangonul to Picton, woro spoken noar Hana island by the Himitangi ; but no light was thrown upon the mystery. It was then decided by Captain ManIcy, of tho Himitangi, after consultation with Captain Post, of the Tutanekai (who was on board representing the Government) that a zig-zag course should be followed (or thirty miles out, and this was without any result. Captain #9*t and two press representatives landed J at Castlocliff from the Himitangi, and the steamer then proceeded* 1 on her. voyage to Oreymoutlt.
