Maori Girls' College.
(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, May 22. A very successful fete and bazaar in aid of the funds of the Victoria School for Maori Girls was opened by tho Governor in the presence of a large attendance of the public. Speeches were made by lias Excellency, ltishop and Mrs Neligan, and a Maori uddress was presented to the Governor by the natives of the district. The fete was arranged and carried out almost entirely by the Muori girls themselves, anil tha principle of self-help thus ni>plied was the keynote of tho speeches. Mrs Neligan, as president of the Victoria Association for helping Maori women and girls, stated that so far fourteen scholarships of £2O each had been obtained —twelvo from different parts of New Zealand and two from Englund. Three of the scholarships wero for three years, and it was expected that others also would bo continuous.
Lord ltanfurly made a strong point of the necessity of looking after the Maori boys and girls after they had left school, and Mrs Neligun said the association had this matter in view.
