NEW GUINEA.
A COMMISSION' OP INQUIRY. (Received May 14, 1.5 a.m.) MELBOURNE, May 18. Tlio Government has decided to appoint a Royal Commission to in'quire into the New Guinea conflict. Captain Barton, administrator, lvas been instructed to arrange for the attendance ot all necessary witnesses, hut as the Merrie England will have to visit New Guinea to bring back some witnesses the Commission will be unable to commence its labours before early in July.
( Mr Hughes, Alinistor for External Affairs, says the Government regards llio matter very seriously, and will lose liu time in sifting it to the bottom.
