Fruit Growing.
(Per Press Association.) GISBORNE, May 13. A deputation from the Fruit Growers' Association waited on Hons. McUowar. and Carroll to-day in regard to the services of an expert to advise as to spraying, etc., and for obtaining through the Government supplies of pure chemicals foj* (".praying. One speaker favoured the duty on imported fruit being enforced two months earlier, but Mr McGowan said that would prevent poor nun from buying it. Mr Carroll safcl he would see if he could arrange for the expert to visit Gisborne, and also if the department could supply pure chemicals. He did not think thero was any chance of getting land as suggested.
Mr McOowan said that they had bought lands in .some districts and were growing fruit to show how it could be done. lie thought that with the fruit industry it required the Government's linger upon the "fruit pulse" of the colony. Home people might noL like a seimrate department, but it required more attention from the Agricultural Department. It was the desire of the Government to assist tho industry as much as possible.
