District Court.
(Per Press Association.) WANGANUI, liny 12. The District Court sessions opened this morning before Judge Ward. No criminal or civil business was set down, and bankruptcy business is proceeding. His Honor suspended the order oi discharge of a Slangaweka bankrupt named Johnston until he paid the creditors 10s in the pound. The debtor paid his wife wages, with which she assisted to stock the farm, and the judge In-ld that property bought by the wile with money thus received could r, ( .t be claimed to belong to her exclusively.
The protection afforded to debt--01 s by the Village Settlement Act was exemplified in the case of Johnston, who applied for a discharge from bankruptcy. His liabilities totalled £2OO odd, and though he was offered in Court £350 for his leasehold he refused to accept it. Judge Ward grantod an order of discharge, subject to the payment of 10s in the £.
