The enemy lost 250 killed and Wounded, and the British two poys wounded. Colonel Younghusband is of opinion tlnvti the postj is perfectly safe. * (Received May 9, 11.17 p.m.) A LONDON, May 9. The attack at Gyang-tse occurred j after the departure of Colonel ■ llrander with three companies of ; native infantry and a company ol ' mounted infantry, and two Maxims and seven seven-pounders, to dislodge 1600 natives posted under a gigantic chasm. The Thibetans, including many riflemen, held.a point - of vantage on a stone wall below the Karo Pass. The Sikhs rushed' up, Captain Bethuire being killed. The wall was shelled, and the Ohurkas and Sikhs climbed the mountains, surprising riflemen in sangars on either side. The , enemy after six hours' tenacious fighting, fled, losing 200 of their number, * chiefly during the pursuit. Four British were killed and 21 wounded. Rich tents which were captured contain a lama's robes. The failure of the Chinese to warn Colonel Younghusbattd of the attack Is much commented upon.
